International Schoenstatt Products at the Schoenstatt Mile

photo.jpgHbre. “Covenant arm bands from Ecuador, MTA mirrors from Poland, handicrafts from India and Colombia, slippers from Brazil, MTA cloth from Kenia, sculptures from Burundi and typical MTA pictures on banana skins, all of these you can buy at the Schoenstatt Mile which pilgrims have brought from far and near,” explains Sr. M Louise Schulz, who is the coordinator. “If you are looking for a souvenir for a friend then this is the place to come.”

Shopping during the jubilee pilgrimage

The shopping and information mile can be found on mount Schoenstatt on your way to the catering tent for lunch as it is near the Adoration Church. You can also find sections of this mile in the tents near the Mission House, the Novitiate House, as well as in the reception area of the auditorium under the Adoration Church. There you can find articles from all over the world.

“Whoever is looking for a particular jubilee gift, likes to look around between the main events, or wants to see what the countries have on offer, then the Schoenstatt Mile is the place to be,” said Sr. M. Louise whose day to day work is at the central office for the Schoenstatt Movement Family Work. “You can find some cute little shrines in a variety of versions. We have some of wood from Romania, shrine key-ring made of pearls from Kenya and 3-D cards from Argentina. The artist Maia Wyler has created some folding pocket shrines just for the jubilee.”

 Unity Cross

All devotional objects e g. cards, cd’s, brochures, T-shirts, hats, socks, pens, all in the Schoenstatt look can be found at the Mile. You also have the chance to buy the cross of unity directly from Rome. The Italian artist Chiara Principe has created a replica of the original from the Schoenstatt Father, Angel Vincente in Santa Maria, Brazil. This cross is the symbol for our missionary activity in Schoenstatt for the Church, and reminds us to give our all for the mission, for the second Schoenstatt century. Every pilgrim going to Schoenstatt and Rome will receive one of these crosses. However, if you want to buy some for those who cannot be in Schoenstatt or Rome then you can buy one for €5 at the Schoenstatt Mile.

Reading material, literature, information, and Jubilee jam

“Of course you can buy books in Spanish and in German at the Schoenstatt Mile,” answered Sr. Louise, “for example you can buy books from the Sion Institute for research and formation in the reception area of the auditorium.” Apart from all the books you can buy, there will be a lot of information stands available, such as friends of the Schoenstatt Boys’ Youth – SBY, information on Radio Horeb and initiatives from the Schoenstatt Family in Mainz and further afield, “if you only knew what a sweet could tell you about God.” Sr. M. Louise said smiling. “But I would also like to add that the Girls’ Youth from the diocese of Trier want to help you get a taste for the jubilee by offering you their home-made jam.

“So you see it is worthwhile coming and having a look for yourself. You are all welcome.”
