In the recent history of the Male Youth of Schoenstatt (JM/SMJ), two parallel sets of ideals of the Male Youth have been discovered independently of each other from the opposite ends of the world.

In Germany, the Male Youth founded the five columns that defined their identity (Die Fünf Säulen):

• Gemeinschaft (Community)
• Lebensschule (School of Life)
• Liebesbündnis (Covenant of Love)
• Mannsein (Being a Man)
• Apostelsein (Being an Apostle)

At the same time, the Male Youth of South America founded the four pillars of the Generación Misionera (Missionary Generation):

• Unidad Internacional (International Unity)
• Protagonismo (Protagonism)
• Cultura de Alianza (Covenant Culture)
• Fuego de la Misión (Missionary Zeal)
